Turn your colony into income
ShrimpBay gives UK shrimp keepers a proper storefront — trusted checkout, automatic payouts, and buyers who are already looking for exactly what you breed.
Join before 15 October 2026 and pay 0% commission — forever
Every seller who completes onboarding within our first two months keeps a permanent 0% commission rate as a thank-you for taking a chance on ShrimpBay early. Sellers who join after that pay our standard 8% commission on completed sales — matching the very bottom of what other UK marketplaces charge.

List your shrimp
Pick from our species allow-list, add photos (and video, if you've got it), a price, and how you ship — we only allow legitimate, responsibly-bred ornamental shrimp.
Get discovered, get paid
Buyers find you through Buy and ShrimpMap. When an order comes in, ShrimpBay handles checkout and pays you out, minus commission.
Commission, in plain terms
ShrimpBay takes a 8% commission on the sale price of completed orders to cover payment processing, hosting, and ongoing development — you never pay anything to list. Early sellers (joined before 15 October 2026) are locked in at 0% for as long as they sell on ShrimpBay. There are no listing fees, subscription costs, or hidden charges either way.
Shipping & the DOA guarantee
As shrimp keepers ourselves, we know shipping live animals is the hardest part of this hobby. We only allow verified, pet-safe courier methods on ShrimpBay — but even done right, dead-on-arrival (DOA) losses sometimes happen. Here’s how we handle that, plainly:
- We recommend APC or DX for shipping. Both are recognised by the trade association (OATA) as appropriate for live animals. Royal Mail’s own terms technically prohibit shipping live animals — sellers may still choose it, but do so at their own risk, and it will be clearly flagged as non-recommended at listing time.
- Pack photo required before shipping. Sellers upload a timestamped photo of the bagged, packed shrimp before a shipping label is generated — this protects both sides if a dispute arises and is not yet standard practice anywhere else in the UK hobby.
- Weather holds. We check forecast temperatures at both ends of a shipment and flag or block next-day dispatch when conditions are unsafe for live animals (near-freezing or very hot), rather than leaving that judgement call entirely to the seller.
- Buyers agree to our DOA terms at checkout. Every order requires accepting the DOA policy before payment — no exceptions.
- Sellers, not ShrimpBay, are liable for DOA value. We facilitate the marketplace and review disputes fairly, but we don’t assume financial liability for a DOA order or its value — that sits with the seller, same as any other marketplace facilitator. To back that up structurally rather than just as a policy promise, your payout for an order is held in escrow and only released once the DOA claim window closes clean — unless you’re on Shrimpsurance, which unlocks instant payouts (see below).
- Keep a 70% alive-on-arrival rate. Every seller needs to maintain at least a 70% alive-on-arrival rate over any rolling 30 days. Fall below that and your account is suspended until you submit an appeal and we’ve reviewed it — this protects buyers and keeps the whole marketplace trustworthy.
Shrimpsurance — DOA protection for £10.00/month
Opt in for £10.00 a month and you get two things. First, instant payouts: 70% of every sale is paid out to you immediately instead of waiting for the DOA window, with the rest released when the window closes clean. Second, ShrimpBay covers 70% of the value of every upheld DOA claim against you, so a bad shipping day doesn’t come entirely out of your pocket. Cancel anytime — benefits apply to orders placed while you’re subscribed.
